VMW3- HOW TO ADD ESXi/HOST’S TO vCenter

HOW TO ADD ESXi/HOST’S TO vCenter

We can connect all Hosts/ESXi individually and manage as well, if it is possible then why to add them in vCenter?

Just imagine a setup where 10 hosts are carrying several VM’s, then imagine to log in every host and manage them. How it feels?

Scary !!! isn’t it?

What is the first question coming in mind? How great it would be if I can manage all of them from one place, Right!!!   Yes…… Exactly,

Great, let’s add all of them in vCenter (according to infra design).

Before adding Hosts/ESXi’s to vCenter we need to create Data-Center inside vCenter.

Well, here we have two options according to design. If we have several Hosts located at different places then we can go location wise else can create DC directly.

Just right click and can see we have 2 options, either create folders and add DC inside or create DC directly.

I created a folder “MUMBAI” and added DC inside

One more folder created “CHENNAI” and DC inside, I also created independent DC named “MYLAB-DC01”

These folders created to explore possibilities, I will go with my alone DC.

Go to DC, right click and click on Add Host.

Provide IP/Hostname,

Provide Credentials of ESXi,

Yes,

Check on Host Summary, if there are already VM’s on that Host they will appear and can be added.

If you have License then provide here otherwise go with evaluation,

This is lockdown mode for ESXi manageability, means how secure we want our ESXi, choose according to design recommendation. Here I am going with default i.e. Disabled.

If you created any folder to store VM then they will appear here, otherwise go with DC itself.

Finally, check everything is in place or not?

If yes, just click on finish. And will appear following screen,
Nothing to worry about the red flag, its in process of addition in vCenter. Once added successfully the flag will disappear.

In same way I added another Host/ESXi to vCenter.
